After our first ever photowalk

We had our first ever photowalk and it was a great success- a big thank you to all who attended. We had a great turn-out (even a baby showed up strapped to her mom) and we had a great time. Photos are starting to trickle in and I will post them very soon- I'm excited to see how they all look together. Stay tuned...

First Photo Walk Ever

We will be embarking on our first ever photo walk on August 25th in downtown Calgary. We will meet at 7:30 on the theater seating in Olympic Plaza and walk around for an hour or two taking pictures. There are no equipment or skill requirements (if you don't even have a camera- let me know and I'll try and find one for you) so come on out, meet some new people, learn more about photography and have a good time.
I'll have some recommended categories for you to create images for and we'll post your two or three best pictures on this blog once all is said and done- it'll be great to see what we come up with.
Last thing you need to know is that there is no fee so tell your friends and we'll see you on the 25th.
If you are late and can't find us phone me at 403.462.5499.

What is a photo walk?

As this is the first post for this here blog, I suppose that it is appropriate to explain what a photowalk is, for those of you who don't already know. As far as I know a photowalk is simply a gathering of like-minded lens-slingers taking pictures. There is no requirement for skill or equipment- it is just a chance to get better, get experience and meet new people. I'm intrigued by the fact that even though a group of people gathers in the exact same spot, they will not necessarily come up with the same images. Each photographer has their own "eye"- their own individual creativity that will result in unique pieces that would not have even occurred to anyone else.
My vision for Calgary Photo Walk is that it becomes a community of people who love to take pictures gathering together two or three times a year for some fun and some photography. I hope that soon this blog is home to many beautiful, creative, emotional, abstract, provocative images of our home town.
Please stay tuned to this blog for dates and images and welcome to Calgary Photo Walk...
